We popped some good old fashioned tomato soup into the Stanley jar and made our way out to the back of the Gargunnock hills to see if it was still piping hot by the time we came back down through the forest several hours later and it certainly was!
The integrated spork is a nice touch and the handy insert on the side of the jar means you're not likely to lose your spork easily but you need to remove it before you can open the lid of the jar - not a deal breaker but something to note. The spork is long enough to reach the bottom of the jar and works well with pastas and rice dishes but less well with soup as the spork isn't deep enough to get a decent mouthful up.
The jar fits well in your hand and has a satisfying weight about it which is no doubt due to the recycled food grade stainless steel. The double-wall vacuum insulation is heavy duty and ensured our soup was hot 5 hours after popping it in. We found the jar to be completely leak-proof as when I took it out my rucksack, it had managed to turn itself upside down and there was no leakage at all.

I was really looking forward to using this food jar as I have been hugely impressed with the quality of Stanley outdoor gear, and have been using the Stanley 12oz Travel Mug for the last few months and I certainly wasn't disappointed. From a practical and functional standpoint, this food jar has proved to be a great addition on hiking trips, picnics, camping trips and even for my office lunch.
The feel and look of the Stanley Food Jar inspires confidence as this is a solid and well built insulated food jar. Even the iconic Hammertone Green shade is practical and non-fussy. The mechanics are simple as the insulated lid is easy to remove and the extra wide mouth gives masses of room to pour your soup into the jar and also to clean it. The spork is certainly long enough to reach the bottom of the jar but I feel is more aligned with eating stews or pasta or even baked beans more so than soup as it's a bit fiddly to get a decent spoonful on the spork!
